by Oct 27, 2020

The first electric school buses in the commonwealth will start operating from next month. This electric bus is introduced by Dominion Energy’s Electric School Bus Program and Sonny Merryman, a Campbell County-based school and commercial bus company. Dominion Energy’s Electric School Bus Program was announced in August, 2019. In the phase 1 of this program, 50 of these electric buses will be delivered to schools. Phase 2 is pending due to state approval. In the phase 2 of the program, it is planned to bring at least 1,000 additional electric school buses to Virginia school divisions by 2025. The 50 buses coming in phase 1 of the program will be powered by Proterra batteries. According to a news release, these 50 buses alone will prevent almost 3 million pounds of carbon emissions.
