Hyundai Motor Co. has announced its plans to sell hydrogen powered trucks in the U.S. Hyundai’s XCIENT is the world’s first hydrogen powered heavy-duty truck (HDT) . This HDT is powered by a 190-kW hydrogen fuel cell system and it can travel approximately 400km on a single charge. These trucks are already being used commercially in the Europe. Hyundai has reportedly called Toyota its biggest competitor. Toyota had already announced its plans to introduce fuel cell powered trucks. One advantage of hydrogen powered EVs over the battery powered EVs is the weight factor. To produce weigh less batteries is one major concern of battery research groups. Hydrogen being the lightest gas in the universe provides an evironmental friendly solution. Shortage of hyrdrogen refueling stations is still an issue as hydrogen transportation is not easy.
