Statkraft has awarded an EPC contract to ABB for installation of two high inertia synchronous condensers

ABB has been awarded a contract by Statkraft for the supply and installation of synchronous condensers with flywheel in Liverpool. This project contains installation of two high inertia synchronous condensers of 67 Mvar with 40 tonne flywheels and ancillary equipment as ABB ACS880 drives, UniGear ZS1 MV switch gear with SWICOM VD4 circuit breakers and AXR 500 motors. ABB will perform this task on turn key basis. ABB has also signed a 10 years maintenance contract with Statkraft for these machines which will be provided by ABB UK’s field service team. These machines will be manufactured in Sweden and installation will be done by ABB UK’s engineering team. This project is aimed to go online by 2022 and will ensure that network frequency and voltage are held stable for the reliability of the gird as UK national grid will integrate more renewable resources to their system to achieve their target of zero carbon electricity system by 2025 Link to the news:
