Siemens with BAM Nuttall Limited (a UK based construction and civil engineering company) has successfully installed two STATCOMs in the network of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN). These are the first two STATCOMs that have been installed in SSEN network. Before that, SSEN had two SVCs installed in their network Tealing and Beauly substations both provided by GE. Melgarve substation offers a few challenges from construction viewpoint as it is one of the highest transmission substations in the UK. The primary objective of these STATCOM installations is renewable energy integration as the substation is facilitating a 227 MW Stronelairg wind farm. Link to the news:
