Saudi Electric Company (SEC) has awarded a contract for installation of 132/33 kV substations at Amaala to Alfanar Construction. This project contains construction of two substations namely, Miraya and Triple Bay. These substations will be equipped with 20 MVAR STATCOM, gas insulated switchgear, protection system, substation automation system (SAS) and SCADA system. Alfanar will perform this task on turnkey basis i.e., from design to commissioning. OEM for this project is not yet announced but will be most likely ABB, Hyundai or NR-Electric will be supplying STATCOM for this project. This is second project of SEC in which Alfanar Construction stood out as lowest bidder. The project is aimed to be completed in span of 25 months and will support to maintain the system stability and network voltage as Amaala being a luxurious tourism spot will be one of the major load centers of KSA in near future.
