Construction work on different phases of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum (MBR) Solar Park is underway with latest development of inauguration of third phase of MBR solar park this week. With completion of third phase of the project which added 800 MW of clean energy into the energy mix, Dubai has outdone its target of achieving 7% renewable share in energy mix by 2020 by attaining 9% of renewables share after inauguration of this project. The forth phase of the project broke the record for lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) last year by offering USD 0.073 kWh last year which is expected to be operational from third quarter of 2021, while the fifth phase who’s tender was won last Sunday by ACWA has set a new record of lowest LCOE by offering lowest tariff of $0.016953 per kWh. The fifth phase will be a 900 MW solar park.
The MBR project is expected be completed by 2030 with total capacity of 5,000 MW. This project will help Dubai in achieving its target of 15% of renewable energy share by 2030.
