Okanogan County in Washington has approved funding for six new power transformers as part of their ongoing plans to upgrade infrastructure. The district has been planning for various capital projects throughout their system, working to keep up with aging equipment. Some of that critical equipment includes these power transformers, originally estimated to cost the district about $3 million. The Okanogan County Public Utility District (PUD) received nine bids in December 2020 ranging from $2.4 million to $5 million, and selected Virginia Transformer with the lowest bid. The transformers will be delivered in phases, with some arriving in summer 2021 and others next spring.
Virginia Transformer Corp is the fourth largest power transformer manufacturer in North America. The company has three manufacturing facilities in North America and supplies custom-made transformers to power generating and distributing companies, heavy industries and other businesses.
