Planning regulations which had the effect of limiting the size of battery storage projects in Britain were removed in July.
New regulations introduced will reduce barriers to storage projects above 50 MW in England and 350 MW in Wales and allow for battery storage projects five times the size as the current limit in Britain. The regulation change was positively received by the storage marketand PTR believes that this move has been made to galvanize investments and will allow more batteries to balance the grid as the number of intermittent renewables continues to grow, as well as speeding up the approval process.
