Hitachi ABB Power Grids inaugurated a new surge arrester factory in China to satiate the intensifying demand for safe and reliable energy. Hitachi ABB Power Grids has a subsidiary in China for surge arresters called ABB Xiamen Surge Arrestor Co., Ltd. Surge arresters serve as the primary protection for electrical equipment against over-voltages. Hitachi ABB Power Grids has been designing and manufacturing surge arresters since the last 75 years. Moreover, In China, Hitachi ABB Power Grids has produced more than 3 million units of surge arresters.

The new factory is located at company hub site in Xiamen instead of the existing manufacturing facility established in Shenzhen in 2012. Also, this factory increases the production capacity of Hitachi ABB Power Grids in China and comprises automated production lines and is designed to ensure environmental-sustainability. Previously, the hub in Xiamen produced GIS, gas-insulated lines (GIL) and GIS components up to 1,200 kV, which is the highest voltage level in the world. In addition to the factories, the hub also consists of laboratories capable of performing tests on all HV products up to 1,200 kV, as well as training and service capabilities. Furthermore, a technology center facilitates close collaboration between the business’ R&D experts and customers, enabling the co-creation of innovative power solutions.

China is the world’s largest energy producer as well as the largest energy consumer, with an annual growing installed power generation capacity of 5%. As the country moves into a new energy revolution for cleaner, high-efficiency and digital technologies, China will account for 40% of the anticipated global renewable capacity by 2024.
