Hitachi ABB Power Grid to build $230 million world’s largest transformer manufacturing base in China

On July 26 2019, ABB and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government signed an investment and cooperation agreement to move an existing facility (120,000 sq meters) of ABB Chongqing Transformer Co., Ltd to an industrial park in Liangjiang and establish a world-leading transformer manufacturing base in the new site. Construction on the new transformer manufacturing base located in Yufu Industrial Park of Liangjiang New Area began in late 2019 and is expected to start operation in 2022. In a recent official statement by Hitachi ABB Power Grid, Phase I of the project, which has an initial investment of around $230 million, will create the world’s advanced transformer manufacturing base and global transformer design center and insulation parts processing center in Chongqing. The global transformer design center that will be completed in the future will be the only transformer design center above 500kV currently laid out by Hitachi ABB Power Grid in China.
The existing factory is one of the largest Hitachi ABB global transformer manufacturing bases with annual production capacity of more than 50000 MVAs. Link to the news:
