Poland is one of the largest electric bus manufacturing countries in Europe. The manufacturing of electric buses is continuously growing as companies such as Germany’s MAN Truck and Bus recently launched production in Poland. “MAN’s new investment strongly enhances Poland’s position in the zero-emissions public transport segment,” Jan Wisniewski from the Polish Association of Alternative Fuels (PSPA) told DW. MAN Truck & Bus is also joining Europe’s third-largest electric bus manufacturer, Solaris. It is estimated that about a third of all electric buses in Europe are manufactured in Poland, led by Solaris Bus & Coach, since 2018 owned by Spanish CAF. Solaris had the biggest share of newly registered buses with electric motors in western Europe in the first three quarters of 2020. In the period, 242 of its Urbino electric buses rolled out onto the streets of European cities, Wisniewski said. Moreover, Volkswagen Group in Poland aims to deliver its first 17 electric buses to Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein public transport company (VHH) by the end of the year. As stated by Volkswagen in Poland, the largest Swedish bus operator has also ordered 22 units of electric bus.
