Efacec has installed three high voltage substations in Rwanda, elevating the country’s voltage level to 220 kV. In the process, it has played a crucial part in furthering the country’s goal of achieving 100% electrification by 2023. This journey began back in 2017, when STEG International Services Company, who won the international tender launched by the Republic of Rwanda, chose Efacec to implement the project on a turn-key basis.
The three new substations are as follows:
• SE Mamba 220kV
• SE Rwabusoro 220/110/11kV
• SE Bugesera 220/110/11kV
These substations will be fundamental in transporting the 80 MW of electricity produced at Hakan Mamba power station (a peat-fired thermal power plant, also known as Gisagara thermal power station) to the national electricity grid for supplying the new international airport and the Bugesera industrial park.
