In 2019, Centrica pioneered a £19 million trial in Cornwall, testing the use of flexible demand, generation and storage across both the domestic and business sectors. Under the trial Centrica rolled-out technologies such as solar and battery storage in over 200 UK homes. PTR believes that findings of the trial can lead to rollout of more renewable energy on the electricity network and provide reduced strain on the grid at peak times. The report also records an impairment of a battery storage asset as a result of forecast price reductions, giving rise to a charge of £9 million. Link to the news:
