DEWA has commissioned a new 400/132 kV substation named ‘Shams’ at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai, which includes 14 (400 kV) Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), 28 (132 kV) GIS, 4 (400/132 kV) power transformers with a conversion capacity of 2020 MVA and 223 kms of 400kV overhead lines to connect with DEWA’s network. This new substation at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has increased the total number of 400/132 kV substations in Dubai to 24, in addition to three new substations that DEWA is currently building at other sites. It will also increase the share of clean energy in Dubai’s energy mix and will help to achieve the target to provide 75% of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
ABB Linxon, which is a joint venture company set up by SNC-Lavalin and Hitachi ABB Power Grids implemented the project. ABB Linxon undertakes turnkey electrical AC substation projects related to renewable and conventional power generation, power transmission and transportation solutions.
